K-1 Super Bantamweight Champion Akihiro Kaneko is no longer facing legal charges following an investigation into assault allegations.
The Chiba District Public Prosecutors Office has decided not to indict K-1 fighter Akihiro Kaneko after conducting an investigation into accusations of assault and extortion. The decision, which was announced on March 26, stated that there was insufficient evidence to pursue formal charges in the case.
Kaneko, the reigning K-1 World Grand Prix Super Bantamweight Champion, had been accused of physically assaulting a training partner at a gym located in Chiba City`s Chuo Ward. The case was initially referred to prosecutors by the Chiba Prefectural Police in October 2023 and was sent for review again in January 2024. Despite these repeated submissions, prosecutors ultimately concluded that the evidence was not substantial enough to warrant an indictment.
The allegations garnered significant attention due to their serious nature, including claims that Kaneko had subjected his training partner to both physical and emotional abuse over an extended period. While the legal process has now concluded with no formal charges filed, the repercussions stemming from these accusations continue to potentially impact the fighter`s career.
As of the current time, neither Akihiro Kaneko nor his representatives have made any public statements regarding the prosecutor`s decision.
