Bellator Champ Patchy Mix Becomes Free Agent

Patchy Mix has become the most prominent free agent in combat sports.

The former Bellator bantamweight champion has been released from his contract. PFL announced on Tuesday that they had agreed not to extend his deal, making him free to seek a new promotion.

In a statement issued Tuesday, PFL officials stated, “Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed not to extend his contract. We both decided this is the best course of action for PFL and him.”

They added, “Patchy is a fantastic fighter and we wish him well. PFL is excited to crown our next 135-pound champion in the PFL World Tournament.”

This announcement concludes a situation that developed over several months. Mix had previously voiced frustration regarding inactivity, especially after a planned fight against Leandro Higo in November was canceled. Following that cancellation, Mix had requested his release from the PFL.

Since then, Mix has continued to voice his anger and frustration towards the PFL regarding his lack of ring time. His most recent fight occurred in May 2024, where he defeated Magomed Magomedov in a rematch.

That victory marked Mix`s seventh consecutive win, improving his overall professional record to 20-1.

Regrettably, Mix did not get the opportunity to extend this winning streak or defend his Bellator title again, due to the prolonged inactivity that ultimately led him to request his release.

It now seems both parties have reached a mutual understanding to separate.

It`s highly likely the UFC will show immediate interest in Mix, considering he is arguably the top bantamweight fighter not currently signed to their promotion. Mix trains in Las Vegas, occasionally working with the current UFC bantamweight champion, Merab Dvalishvili, and has frequently stated his desire to join the UFC.

Following his departure from the PFL, it appears Mix may finally receive that opportunity.
