Carlos Ulberg Names Unexpected Title Challenger Preference Between Ankalaev and Pereira

Carlos Ulberg has clearly identified his desired opponent as he prepares for his upcoming fight this weekend. This Saturday at UFC Perth, Ulberg is set to headline against Dominick Reyes, a crucial bout that could significantly advance his pursuit of a championship opportunity.

While the RAC Arena clash is highly anticipated, it`s not the only significant light heavyweight contest on the horizon for fans. The rivalry between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev is intensifying in anticipation of their rematch scheduled for UFC 320 on October 4. As numerous contenders vie for the Russian`s light heavyweight title, Ulberg, currently on an impressive winning streak, recently revealed his ideal opponent for his own championship challenge.

Ulberg Prefers Magomed Ankalaev as Title Opponent Over Alex Pereira

Unlike his opponent Dominick Reyes, who is aiming for a rematch, Carlos Ulberg has yet to compete against many of the division`s elite fighters. A victory on Saturday night doesn`t automatically guarantee him the next title shot, especially with the upcoming UFC 320 clash between Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr., but it will undeniably place him firmly in the title contention discussion.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio ahead of his fight week, Ulberg discussed the eagerly awaited title fight rematch headlining UFC 320 in Las Vegas. He also specified which fighter he hopes emerges victorious from that bout, as he wishes to challenge them for the championship.

Contrary to what some might expect, given their shared kickboxing backgrounds and the history between `Poatan` and Ulberg`s City Kickboxing gym, Alex Pereira is not Ulberg`s preferred choice.

“I`ve consistently viewed Magomed Ankalaev as a significant threat, as I do `Poatan` with his power and capabilities. However, if I had to choose, I`d prefer Ankalaev to win because I believe I understand how to approach a fight against him.”

Ulberg clarified that he would still be enthusiastic about fighting Pereira, but he expressed uncertainty regarding the former champion`s long-term presence in the sport.

“That would be a massive fight, one I`ve always wanted because he’s a tough opponent. But from what I`ve gathered, I`m not certain about his longevity in the sport. He’s certainly earned his stripes and achieved great things in the UFC, but I just have a feeling Ankalaev might be around for a longer period.”

Carlos Ulberg`s Impressive Winning Streak Could Solidify His Title Claim After UFC Perth

Should Carlos Ulberg emerge victorious this Saturday in Perth, he will achieve an impressive nine-fight winning streak, ranking among the best in light heavyweight history. Despite this remarkable run, he hasn`t yet secured a title shot, largely because some of his key victories haven`t generated the viral moments that ignite fan demand for him as the next challenger.

In contrast, fighters like Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr. consistently deliver thrilling performances and memorable highlights, positioning them favorably for a potential title opportunity. Ulberg acknowledges that he either needs to make a definitive statement this weekend or, as he shared with Submission Radio, trust that his winning streak alone will speak volumes for his title aspirations.

“Nine is a significant number. I possess nine lives; I am the `Black Jag`.”
