Bantamweight contender Patchy Mix recently faced his second consecutive defeat in the UFC, a disappointing turn for a fighter who arrived in the promotion as one of the most highly-touted talents from Bellator. Following a heavily criticized debut loss at UFC 316, Mix aimed for redemption at UFC 320. However, after another contentious decision loss on October 4, 2025, new details have emerged suggesting his training camp was severely compromised by a series of underlying health issues.

TJ Dillashaw Sheds Light on Mix`s Pre-Fight Health Woes
Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw recently disclosed on the JAXXON Podcast that Patchy Mix was battling significant health problems leading up to UFC 320. Dillashaw described Mix`s concerning appearance during the ceremonial weigh-ins, recalling, “He just did not look good when we were going to ceremonial weigh-ins… He’s like laying on the ground, looking like he’s still cutting weight.”
Dillashaw further revealed that Mix admitted to throwing up since weigh-ins and being unable to keep anything down due to illness. Compounding the severity, Mix also reportedly had a staph infection for two weeks prior to the fight, requiring antibiotics. “So, it didn’t sound like camp went that great. When you’re on antibiotics, your cardio is going to suck, and we saw that in the fight,” Dillashaw explained.
At UFC 320, Mix endured a gruesome eye injury during his split decision loss to Jakub Wiklacz during the prelims. Despite the fight being extremely close, with many observers believing Mix deserved the win for two of the three rounds, he ultimately left the Octagon empty-handed. The nature of these back-to-back performances has even led some to speculate about the future of Mix`s UFC career.

Dillashaw Calls for Technical Evolution While Acknowledging Health Impact
Patchy Mix`s trajectory has shifted dramatically, going from a dominant 20-1 Bellator champion to accumulating consecutive decision losses in the UFC in 2025. While many critiques have focused on his in-cage performances, TJ Dillashaw emphasized that while technical improvements are necessary, Mix’s health struggles likely played a significant contributing factor.
“On the technical side of things, I’d really like to see Patchy Mix evolve,” Dillashaw stated. “I would need to start seeing him moving his head. He doesn’t have any head motion. He kind of stands in front of you a little bit and just plots forward.” He concluded by noting the critical impact of fatigue on performance: “His jiu-jitsu is good. I could see some more feints, some more head motion, was a little more snappy on his punches, but unfortunately he was so tired that his punches didn’t have it. The first thing that goes away when you get tired is your feints and your movement.”
