Fans Criticize PFL Co-founder Donn Davis’s Message to Patchy Mix Ahead of UFC 316 Debut

Fans reacted negatively to PFL co-founder Donn Davis`s message for Patchy Mix regarding his UFC debut at UFC 316.

The UFC bantamweight division is bolstered by the arrival of former Bellator champion Patchy Mix. Following his departure from the PFL earlier this year amidst conflict, Mix is set to make his unexpected UFC debut at UFC 316 in Newark on short notice.

Mix will compete on the UFC 316 main card against Mario Bautista, a top 15 contender and teammate of Sean O`Malley. A victory could propel Mix into the competitive bantamweight title picture.

Mix is among several PFL fighters who have transitioned to the UFC Octagon after experiencing difficulties with the PFL leadership. Despite Mix`s contentious departure, one of the PFL`s figures still offered him good wishes for UFC 316.

Donn Davis`s Message Draws Fan Criticism

PFL co-founder Donn Davis posted on X (formerly Twitter), extending good luck to Mix and Kayla Harrison ahead of their UFC debuts at UFC 316.

Davis`s post stated: “I always say there are numerous GREAT MMA fighters OUTSIDE [UFC]… Good luck to former [PFL] stars [Kayla Harrison and Patchy Mix]”.

Despite Davis`s seemingly positive message, fans were quick to criticize the PFL leader given Mix`s recent exit and the context of fighters leaving the promotion.

Fan reactions on social media included accusations that PFL was “letting them all walk back to the UFC,” calling it “Insane work.” Others felt the message was not a “flex” for PFL or suggested that more fighters like Dakota would also leave for the UFC. Some comments were pointedly negative, stating fighters “want nothing to do with you,” that PFL “screwed over Patchy Mix,” or questioning Davis`s understanding of MMA events.

Further criticism targeted PFL`s management, with one user stating fighters left “because you can`t give them any rights,” and another calling Davis “the dumbest man in combat sports.” One commenter thanked PFL for letting Mix go, calling the organization “straight dog s—,” while another questioned the financial sense of PFL buying Bellator.

Patricio `Pitbull` Freire, Aaron Pico, and Patchy Mix are notable fighters who have recently departed the PFL to compete under the UFC banner, seeking the massive UFC spotlight. Aaron Pico`s UFC debut is anticipated later this year, while Patricio Pitbull competed at UFC 314 last month, losing his bout.

Patchy Mix Discusses Potential Matchup with Merab Dvalishvili

As Mix gets ready for his UFC debut, a future matchup against UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili appears possible. According to Mix, Dvalishvili is open to him joining the title contention picture.

Mix and Dvalishvili had a brief discussion while training together during Mix`s contract issues with PFL, hinting at a potential future clash. Dvalishvili is scheduled to defend his bantamweight title against Sean O`Malley in the main event of UFC 316.

An impressive performance and win by Mix at UFC 316 could significantly bolster his claim for a title shot. With Dvalishvili having already defeated many top contenders, Mix represents one of the few high-profile potential new challengers aiming for their first opportunity against the champion.
