Josh Taylor`s return to Scotland and debut in the welterweight division against Ekow Essuman ended in disappointment.
The 34-year-old Scot, known as the `Tartan Tornado`, was widely expected to move up in weight and dominate the 36-year-old underdog from Nottingham.

However, Ekow ‘The Engine’ delivered an impressive performance fueled by grit and determination, securing a unanimous decision victory.
The three ringside judges in Glasgow scored the fight 116-113, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Essuman.
Essuman, beaming, commented, “I`ve been the B-side, the away fighter, and entered the lion`s den. But I recalled things from sparring long ago at Team GB and successfully applied them. I`ve just defeated a former undisputed world champion, so I`m ready for the world stage now. I want to take `The Engine` to America for a world title opportunity.”
Taylor, Scotland’s former undisputed super-lightweight champion, started strongly, targeting Essuman`s head with jabs and then punishing his body.
Essuman found some success with his right hand in the second round, but Taylor consistently landed the more powerful shots, particularly to the body.

Taylor absorbed another right hand at the start of the third and struggled to box effectively after that.
The fourth round was action-packed; Essuman was momentarily staggered by a left hand, but then Taylor was likewise rocked by a right.
A head clash in the seventh round caused a cut above Taylor`s left eye, giving Essuman a clear target.
Essuman`s scores and confidence grew throughout the fight. While Taylor sought a knockout, he allowed his opponent to win rounds.
The tenth round was particularly strong for the visiting fighter, who was supposed to be a welcoming opponent for Taylor`s debut at 147 lbs.
In the championship rounds, Taylor stopped exchanging blows, and Essuman exposed him with significantly more energy and drive until the final bell.
