GLORY Underground marked the promotion`s first event in the United States since 2019, taking place in Miami, Florida. Unfortunately, the event was significantly impacted by a clear lack of professionalism.
The production quality was notably poor. While Joe Valtellini returned to commentary, he was often overshadowed by two loud influencers. Regular commentator Tim Hughes was absent from the broadcast.
An awkward atmosphere was created by a small, seemingly uninterested audience of around 200 people. Further issues arose as even the referees occasionally appeared unfamiliar with the ruleset, which negatively affected some of the fights.
Fans in the YouTube live chat were vocal with their criticism, highlighting the amateurish commentary and subpar presentation that fell far below GLORY`s usual high standards. Following the success of events like `Last Heavyweight Standing`, it was unclear who the `Underground` format was intended to attract.
KWASI AND BEZTATI FIGHT TO ANOTHER DRAW
Despite the broadcast issues, the main event fighters delivered a performance strikingly similar to their first encounter. Both began cautiously before the pace picked up in the second round. mirroring their previous fight, Kwasi scored a knockdown in the second round.
The subsequent two rounds were closely contested, with an emboldened Beztati rallying and likely winning rounds three and four. The final round was an intense back-and-forth exchange. Kwasi seemingly dropped Beztati again, but it was ruled a slip, and they immediately resumed trading blows until the final bell.
Shockingly, the fight was once again ruled a draw. Neither fighter was pleased with the decision, with Beztati claiming in his post-fight interview that he had won four rounds, much to the welterweight champion`s displeasure.
BOAPEAH DOMINATES LATESCU
Michael Boapeah secured his fifth consecutive win since his loss to middleweight champion Donovan Wisse by systematically attacking Stefan Latescu`s leg. In the first round, Boapeah effectively used his boxing and right knee strikes to the body.
The second round proved disastrous for Latescu. Boapeah repeatedly landed shots on Latescu`s calf at will, causing significant pain and scoring three knockdowns within the round. After the final knockdown, the Romanian appeared to surrender, recognizing he could not continue. This loss extends Latescu`s losing streak in the promotion to four, a sad decline for a fighter once celebrated as GLORY`s newcomer of the year.
Boapeah`s dominant victory solidifies his position and moves him closer to challenging for the light heavyweight title.
