“I Wasn’t the One Who Made the Decision”: Ngannou Unhappy with PFL’s Handling of Split

Star Cameroonian heavyweight Francis Ngannou (18-3) has voiced his dissatisfaction with how the Professional Fighters League (PFL) announced their separation. The promotion unexpectedly declared the termination of Ngannou’s contract in early March, weeks after the actual split occurred.

“I Wanted Them to Come Up With Something Better”

Ngannou acknowledged that PFL likely aimed to control the narrative by being the first to break the news, a common tactic for any organization. However, he had hoped for a more appropriate and pre-announced statement regarding the termination of their partnership.

“They wanted to get ahead of the story themselves, and any organization would do that in their place,” Ngannou stated. “We parted ways back in January, and I wanted them to come up with something better, because the decision to part ways wasn’t mine. I was a bit surprised when they sent it to me. They should have told me beforehand… People just sent this to me. I only saw it afterwards, I didn’t know about it at all.”

He expressed significant surprise upon seeing the official announcement, as he had not been informed prior to its public release and only learned about it after the fact.

Just days following PFL’s announcement, it was revealed that Ngannou had signed a deal with Jake Paul’s company. He is scheduled to make his debut on May 16 against Brazil’s Felipe Lins. Additionally, Paul and Ngannou have reportedly agreed to a future face-off.
