Ilia Topuria Slams Islam Makhachev, Vows Vengeance on Justin Gaethje for White House UFC Fight

UFC star Ilia Topuria has stirred significant controversy within the mixed martial arts community. He launched a heated verbal assault against Islam Makhachev and issued a stern warning to Justin Gaethje, his newly announced opponent for the historic UFC event at the White House.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship recently confirmed that Topuria would defend his Lightweight Championship against Justin Gaethje. This monumental fight is scheduled for June 14, 2026, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington D.C.

However, Topuria claims this highly anticipated matchup was not how things were initially planned.

Topuria Alleges Makhachev Evaded Super Fight

In a lengthy post on social media, Topuria accused Islam Makhachev of withdrawing from a potential super fight due to an injury. Topuria suggested that the Dagestani champion once again sought an excuse to avoid facing him.

Topuria stated that he had always expected to participate in the landmark White House card. During negotiations, he claimed the UFC mentioned Makhachev as a possible opponent. The undefeated champion asserted that he immediately accepted this proposed matchup, even though it hadn’t been officially announced yet.

But shortly before the event’s fight card was finalized, Topuria alleges he awoke to news that Makhachev had sustained an injury and would no longer be available to fight.

“Once again Islam comes up with an excuse. This time it’s an injury,” Topuria wrote, implying that the much-anticipated champion-versus-champion clash collapsed at the eleventh hour. Reports indicate the potential bout between the two champions fell apart after Makhachev suffered a hand injury, compelling the UFC to reorganize the event’s lineup.

Topuria’s social media statement further fueled the fire, explicitly targeting both Makhachev and Gaethje. He declared, “Once again, someone else who will pay for Islam’s escape. Both of their manager is a b*tch and also ugly as hell. Justin, see you at the White House. I’m not someone who humiliates people. It will be quick.”
