Jake Paul Planning Talks with Anthony Joshua’s Team in New York, Insists on Heavyweight Fight

Jake Paul intends to leverage his upcoming week in New York promoting the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano trilogy fight to also initiate discussions regarding a potential bout with Anthony Joshua.

Paul promotes Serrano, who is scheduled to compete against Irish boxing legend Taylor on July 11th at Madison Square Garden. This highly anticipated event follows their previous two controversial contests.

Given that Taylor is represented by Eddie Hearn`s Matchroom Boxing, the long-standing promoters of Anthony Joshua, Paul and his team see this as an opportunity. While promoting this historic trilogy fight, meeting with Hearn to explore a surprising matchup against AJ will be on their agenda.

Nakisa Bidarian, Paul`s promotional partner, commented: “Anthony Joshua, I think that`s the main one that we talked a lot about… He`s adamant that he wants to make that fight happen at the end of 2026 and we`re gonna meet with Matchroom while we`re in New York to promote the greatest trilogy in the history of boxing.”

Paul recently had his first heavyweight fight in November against 58-year-old Mike Tyson, who controversially came out of retirement. Paul won the eight, two-minute rounds, although he admitted the two-stone weight jump from cruiserweight was challenging.

The 28-year-old returned to the 200lb cruiserweight limit in his recent victory over former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39.

Jake Paul`s boxing career continues with the Problem Child facing a former world champion in Anaheim, California.

Paul took on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, a decorated former world middleweight champion.

The 39-year-old Mexican had only fought once in the four years prior but boasts the most significant boxing resume of any fighter Paul has faced, aside from Mike Tyson.

Following his ten-round points victory, he once again expressed interest in moving back up in weight to fight Anthony Joshua, 35, drawing inspiration from Deontay Wilder, 39.

Paul stated: “I`m definitely not a heavyweight but I`m still gonna take the challenge. But you know, look at Deontay Wilder, he was beating these guys weighing 215lb. Granted he`s like 6`6 or something but anything is possible and I like the challenge.”

“People`s criticism is fight someone in their prime, who`s a beast. I think people just want to see me lose! That`s really what the message is behind it all,” he added.

“And Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge. We`ve been DMing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it`s looking very likely for next year.”

Paul`s win against Chavez in California appears set to earn him a world ranking with the WBC and WBA. He also called out world champions Gilberto Ramirez, 34, and Badou Jack, 41.

However, criticism persists regarding Paul`s split-decision loss to Tommy Fury, 28, in 2023. The American countered by asserting his intention to avenge that defeat, which occurred only three years after he turned professional.

He remarked: “I don`t even think I was a fighter then. I was like two years, two and a half years into the sport and I didn`t really know what I was doing. I didn`t have the proper team around me, the proper conditioning.”

“My lifestyle outside of the ring was still that of like a YouTuber, celebrity actor, whatever I was at that point. So I wasn`t fully focused on boxing,” Paul explained.

“Like I said, this feels like chapter one`s done tonight. Now we`re moving into chapter two and I`m just getting warmed up in this sport. But people hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion and I`m coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy.”
