Jake Paul taking Amanda Serrano from underpaid legend to highest female fighter sparked his passion for women’s boxing

Jake Paul credits Amanda Serrano`s significant financial success through his promotion as the origin of his passion for women`s boxing. His company, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), has since become a leading platform for female fighters, signing many prominent athletes.

Recent additions to the MVP roster include Alycia Baumgardner, Savannah Marshall, Chantelle Cameron, and Ellie Scotney.

However, the journey began in 2021 with Serrano, a legendary seven-weight world champion from Puerto Rico. When she joined MVP, she was reportedly earning only £3,000 per world title fight; today, she holds the distinction of being the highest-paid female boxer ever.

Paul explained that his motivation came from his relationship with Serrano:

“It just came from the organic relationship that was formed with Amanda Serrano. Seeing how entertaining of a fighter she was and how talented – one of the best boxers of all time period male or female – and how underpaid she was and underserved and wasn`t getting the shine that she deserved.”

Serrano, 36, has faced Irish star Katie Taylor, 38, twice, losing both incredibly close contests by decision. Following her first fight against Taylor, where she earned over £1 million, Serrano is estimated to have made more than £5 million for the rematch.

These two pioneering boxers are set for a third meeting on July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York, featured on a landmark all-women`s boxing event broadcast on Netflix.

The event will also showcase MVP`s commitment to female talent, featuring the newly signed British fighters Marshall, Cameron, and Scotney.

Paul commented on the broader impact:

“I think It turned into this bigger movement and now you just see that all across sports, women shining the Caitlin Clarks, etc. And now it`s happening in boxing and women are getting their equal and fair shot and MVP proved that we can make mega fights happen with women. And, they`re arguably more entertaining than a lot of the recent men`s fights that we`ve seen.”

Serrano`s rematch loss to Taylor took place on an MVP card in November, which also controversially featured Paul`s victory over 58-year-old Mike Tyson in their Netflix match.

Now, the 28-year-old Paul is set to return to the ring on June 28 against former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 39, in a fight airing live on DAZN PPV.

Paul commented on fighting Chavez Jr.:

“Chavez and I have been going back and forth for a long time and he`s always been a great opponent on the list of someone that I wanted to fight. And now it made perfect sense to go up against him as a former world champion and just continuing to further my resume and get more time under the lights.”
