Jon Jones, the renowned two-division UFC champion, has finally addressed a long-standing rumor about the one time he was truly defeated, not in an official fight, but during a sparring session. While his professional record shows a single disqualification loss against Matt Hamill in 2009 – a controversial decision widely viewed as unfair and based on a rule that was later changed – a different story of him being knocked out has persisted for years.
Jones has now confirmed this story is true, even recalling the specific strike that floored him – a move he himself would later use successfully in major bouts.
Jon Jones confirms he was knocked out by Adlan Amagov
The sparring incident involved former UFC welterweight Adlan Amagov over a decade ago in Albuquerque. Former interim champion Carlos Condit, who was present and also fell victim to the same technique, was the first to publicly share details of the event.
According to Condit and now confirmed by Jones, Amagov landed a powerful spinning back kick during a sparring session. This strike first dropped Condit, and shortly after, landed on Jones, putting him down despite his famed resilience in the octagon.
Jones recounted the moment in a recent video, stating in broken English: “Adlan Amagov KO’d me, very true story. Spinning back kick, boom, me down.” He added, “It`s okay, sometimes it happens.”
Jon Jones and Adlan Amagov story has been circulating for a long time
Carlos Condit had previously shared the account on the Jaxxon Podcast, describing Amagov as a “spinning back kick guy” who got the better of both him and Jones in that session. This sparring incident is reportedly the only known instance of Jon Jones being stopped in a combat situation.
Ironically, the spinning back kick became a tool in Jones`s own arsenal, notably used to finish Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, securing his heavyweight title.
