UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov is eager to assist soccer icon Patrice Evra in preparing for his professional mixed martial arts debut. Evra, a former prominent player for Manchester United, is scheduled to compete in the PFL on May 23.
Following his announcement about venturing into the world of MMA, Evra connected with Nurmagomedov to discuss his plans. Evra clarified that his move into fighting was not a mere publicity stunt, but rather a serious undertaking. The 43-year-old former member of the French National Team emphasized his full dedication to rigorous training ahead of his debut fight.
During their conversation, Evra stated:
“I need to train. I need to take it seriously. You know how much respect I have for you, for the sport so that’s why I really need to have a training session with you. Because I want to know from the best.”
Nurmagomedov, a long-time admirer of soccer, pledged his support to Evra if training assistance was needed, especially now that both individuals are residing in Dubai while Evra readies himself for his first bout.
Nurmagomedov responded with his characteristic directness:
“I told you many times, send me location and I’m going to find you. Send location, tell me where are you? When I see you, you have to be ready and that’s it. Other things, I’m going to take care of. I’m going to teach you how to smash people.”
Notably, Nurmagomedov is widely regarded as one of the premier coaches in MMA, having guided numerous champions, including the current UFC lightweight king Islam Makhachev and PFL lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov.
Since retiring from active competition, Nurmagomedov has dedicated significant time to coaching. He is renowned for his intense training sessions and his unwavering commitment to helping his fighters achieve their maximum potential. It appears he is prepared to integrate Evra into his training regimen whenever their schedules permit.
Nurmagomedov further encouraged Evra by saying:
“I just want you to improve yourself. Nothing else. [It’s] very good to see you and finally I hope you’re going to send me location and then we will train together.”
Evra is scheduled to make his PFL debut at the upcoming event in Paris, France, on May 23, which will be held at the Accor Arena.
