Lerone Murphy: Winner of UFC London Main Event Set for Championship Shot

Featherweight contender Lerone Murphy recently shared his thoughts on his highly anticipated upcoming bout at UFC London against Movsar Evloev.

This Saturday night, two formidable featherweight contenders, Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev, are scheduled to clash in the headline event of UFC London. Both fighters present a strong argument for being the division’s top challenger, but ultimately, only one will earn the opportunity to face Alexander Volkanovski for the title later this year.

Lerone Murphy enters this fight following a spectacular knockout victory over Aaron Pico, a win that solidified his standing among the elite featherweights globally. Similarly, Evloev has maintained an unblemished record in the UFC, and he undoubtedly views this fight as his moment to shine brightly.

In a recent interview, Lerone Murphy offered his perspective on the critical matchup.

Lerone Murphy Looks Ahead to UFC London

Murphy stated, “It’s an incredibly significant fight, and I’m confident the victor will go on to secure the championship.”

Current champion Alexander Volkanovski recently expressed his commitment to facing the most deserving contender in the division for his next defense.

Murphy lauded Volkanovski’s stance, remarking, “How could you not admire that? I respect it immensely. Everyone holds Volkanovski in high regard. He’s pragmatic and ranks among the greatest featherweights of all time. For him to articulate that viewpoint, I believe it truly reflects how the sport should operate, and he serves as an excellent role model for the sport.”

Looking beyond the immediate challenge, Murphy added, “My focus is entirely on this Saturday; I intend to give absolutely everything. So, I’m unsure when I’ll step back into the octagon next. However, regardless of the outcome, my aspiration is to compete regularly, to remain active. After my fight with Pico, I was eager for another bout and anticipated fighting in December.”

He continued, “I’ve been sidelined for approximately six or seven months. Honestly, at 34 years old, you want to avoid such long breaks, especially when you’re healthy. For me, staying active is paramount. Therefore, I aim to return to competition by the end of summer, no matter the result.”
