Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao confessed he couldn`t stop crying as he struggled to adapt to life after retirement.
The esteemed Filipino athlete retired from the sport in August 2021, following his loss to Yordenis Ugas.
However, after an unsuccessful run for president in the Philippines and participating in a few exhibition matches, Pacquiao is now planning a return to professional boxing.
Known as `PacMan,` this fighter, who famously won titles in eight different weight classes, spoke openly about the emotional difficulties he faced after retiring.

He shared: “When I announced my retirement four years ago, I felt immense sadness. Tears flowed uncontrollably. I genuinely missed boxing deeply. For months, I kept thinking, `Am I really not a boxer anymore?`”
Pacquiao experienced defeats in both the 2022 presidential election and a recent attempt to be re-elected as a senator.
Consequently, he is now dedicating his full attention to boxing, having balanced his fighting career with political endeavors throughout his active years and into retirement.
Pacquiao stated: “For now, my focus is completely off politics. It`s not on my mind at all. I am concentrating entirely on returning to my boxing career. I still feel capable in the ring; I`m not finished yet. The passion, the resolve, the eagerness to train rigorously – it`s all still present. It`s truly incredible.”
As a hint of a potential comeback, Pacquiao participated in an exhibition match against Korean YouTuber DK Yoo in 2022.
Last July, he returned for another exhibition contest, facing Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo in Tokyo.
Despite his last professional victory being in 2019 – six years ago – discussions were reportedly happening regarding a possible world title opportunity.
Soon after, it was confirmed that the 46-year-old Pacquiao would challenge Mario Barrios for his WBC welterweight championship.
According to WBC regulations, a fighter must be ranked within the top 15 of their division to be eligible for a title challenge.

Therefore, it wasn`t particularly surprising when Pacquiao reappeared among the WBC`s top five ranked contenders in mid-May, despite his professional inactivity.
The record for the oldest boxing world champion is held by Bernard Hopkins, who won a title at age 49.
Pacquiao commented, “Becoming world champion again would mean a great deal to me.”
“Manny Pacquiao always aims to surprise his fans. This is a significant passion for me.”

“I want this fight to bring joy to everyone. My objective is to leave a lasting legacy for boxing enthusiasts and to inspire young people who aspire to become champions.”
“July 19 is scheduled to be full of excitement. The fight card features many excellent bouts.”
“I am aware of Barrios` capabilities, and I am confident that we can deliver an entertaining fight for the fans.”
