Jon Jones Convinces Daniel Cormier to Stay After Knife Incident on Russian Reality Show

During season 3 of the Russian reality series ALF Reality, a clone of The Ultimate Fighter, an unexpected turn of events saw rival coaches Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier embroiled in a violent on-set altercation. Following an incident where a fighter nearly resorted to using a knife, Cormier expressed his immediate desire to abandon the show and return home. However, in a surprising display of camaraderie, his long-standing rival, Jon Jones, stepped in as a peacemaker, successfully persuading "DC" to remain and complete filming.

What Transpired on the Show

Tension escalated significantly during the third episode of ALF Reality 3. A brawl erupted between two competing fighters, and one participant, after being struck, ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife to defend himself. Jon Jones promptly intervened, disarming the fighter to prevent anyone from sustaining serious harm. Other contestants on set also assisted in de-escalating the chaotic situation by stepping in and encouraging those involved to calm down.

The dangerous melee left everyone on set feeling unsafe, including both Jones and Cormier. Once the immediate threat was neutralized, Cormier informed the production team and fellow participants that he was contemplating discontinuing filming and wished to fly back home. He voiced his profound concern, stating:

“I think we’re gonna go home. I might give them their money back and stay home. I can’t do this sh*t. It’s too much. Somebody’s going to get hurt bad. Like, bad. Somebody’s going to get hurt really bad.”

Jon Jones Steps In as Peacemaker and Thanks Daniel Cormier for Staying

Despite their ongoing strained relationship and frequent verbal exchanges throughout the reality series, "Bones" Jones recognized the gravity of the situation. He addressed the team, making it clear that if Cormier were to quit, he would seriously consider leaving the show as well. Jones then urged all the fighters to put aside their real-life conflicts and prevent the situation from spiraling out of control, emphasizing that their collective goal was to produce a compelling television show, which would be impossible if one of the coaches were to withdraw midway.

Jon Jones articulated his perspective:

“Right now, one of our coaches is debating on staying. At the end of the day, Daniel Cormier is a big star in America. He’s a father, he’s a coach. It’s his responsibility to make sure that his team is safe while they’re out here. At the end of the day, this competition, we’re all on the same team.”

He further elaborated:

“I know you guys have real conflicts, but ultimately, our goal is to make good TV. If we lose one of our coaches, we can’t make good TV. The fighting, the violence, it’s a lot of fun. But nothing on this show is worth losing your life, whether that’s in the ground or in jail. I understand how Daniel feels, because when I see things like knives, I personally don’t want to be here either. So guys, please don’t make it hard for myself or Daniel by making this show life-threatening.”

Following Jones’ heartfelt message to the team, the atmosphere in the room seemed to calm, and a shared understanding settled amongst everyone. Subsequently, "Bones" publicly expressed his gratitude to "DC" for his decision to stay and continue with the production.
