Ahead of a pivotal fight in his career, former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton `Rampage` Jackson considered a highly unexpected training partner.
Throughout his illustrious career, Jackson faced off against many of the greatest fighters of his time. His intense rivalry with Wanderlei Silva, which saw him even the score in their fourth encounter, was just one highlight among many clashes with legendary figures. While his knockout victory over Silva might be his personal favorite, `Rampage` boasts several other memorable KOs that could easily claim that distinction.
Jackson, now 47, recently disclosed his unique preparation strategy for a fight against another iconic opponent whom he famously defeated twice.
Quinton `Rampage` Jackson`s Surprising Comparison: Herb Dean and Chuck Liddell
Most mixed martial arts enthusiasts are well-acquainted with Herb Dean, a prominent figure regularly officiating inside the Octagon. Despite facing recent scrutiny, the veteran referee is still regarded as one of MMA`s most experienced officials.
Lesser known to many is Dean`s background as a professional fighter, with a 2-3 record between 2001 and 2007, before he became a full-time referee.
During a recent episode of the JAXXON PODCAST, Quinton `Rampage` Jackson surprised his co-hosts by revealing he once approached Dean to spar ahead of a fight against Chuck Liddell.

“In MMA, it`s tough to find someone who can perfectly emulate your opponent`s style. I needed someone reminiscent of Chuck Liddell, and the only person I could think of was Herb Dean. But Herb told me, `No, I have to remain neutral. I can`t assist you in training for your fight,` ” Jackson recounted.
Initially, Jackson`s co-hosts, including former UFC champion TJ Dillashaw, were skeptical until he explained Dean`s past as a professional fighter before transitioning to officiating.
Jackson then reiterated his earnest desire for Dean`s help in preparing to face `The Iceman.`
“I trained with Herb Dean many years ago, and believe me when I say this: Herb Dean moves remarkably like Chuck Liddell. I actually sparred with him back then.”

Ultimately, Quinton `Rampage` Jackson Overcame Chuck Liddell Without Herb Dean`s Assistance
As Jackson faced Chuck Liddell twice in his career, it`s not specified which particular bout prompted this sparring request. Regardless of the specific fight `Rampage` was referring to, the UFC legend ultimately proved he didn`t require Dean`s assistance to triumph in this significant rivalry.
Jackson secured victories over Liddell twice: first in Pride in 2003, and then again for the UFC Light Heavyweight title at UFC 75. In both encounters, `Rampage` delivered knockout finishes against `The Iceman,` solidifying these as two of the former champion`s most notable victories.
