Statement Released After Fatal Crash Involving Francis Ngannou

MMA fighter Francis Ngannou has issued a statement regarding his involvement in a fatal motorcycle accident in his home country of Cameroon. The tragic incident resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl due to injuries sustained in the collision.

The accident reportedly occurred over the Easter weekend in the Omnisports district of Yaounde, Cameroon, and involved a motorcycle Ngannou was riding that collided with the young woman. While exact details of the crash are not yet available, initial reports indicate the victim suffered injuries to her arm and leg. Ngannou is said to have promptly taken her to a local medical facility for treatment.

Despite efforts to save her life, the young woman tragically passed away at Yaounde General Hospital.

Ngannou told TMZ Sports that he has been supporting the victim`s family since the very beginning, offering comfort and his deepest condolences during this devastating time. He stated, “I`ve met with them privately to share in their grief, and I will continue to stand with them every step of the way.”

He added that he carries their pain with him and his unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss.

Authorities in Cameroon are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

The 38-year-old Ngannou last competed in MMA in October. This was his PFL debut where he secured a dominant first-round victory over Renan Ferreira, marking his return to the sport after an absence of over two years.

Before his return to MMA, Ngannou transitioned to boxing after leaving the UFC as a free agent, engaging in high-profile matches against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

This personal tragedy follows another difficult period for the former UFC heavyweight champion, who recently shared the news of his 15-month-old son Kobe`s sudden passing in April 2024.
