The Japanese fighter will make his Muay Thai debut against a former Rajadamnern champion.
Former K-1 featherweight champion Taito Gunji has officially revealed his upcoming return to active competition. Speaking at a press conference held earlier today in Tokyo, Gunji announced his plans following an eight-month break. He is scheduled to step into the ring under OFG (open-finger glove) Muay Thai rules for the first time, competing in the KNOCK OUT promotion on June 22. His opponent for this debut will be Petchrungruang Sor.Jaruwan, a fighter who previously held a Rajadamnern championship title.
Gunji marks a significant move as the initial fighter among several who have recently left K-1 to transition into Muay Thai, choosing this path over continuing solely in kickboxing.
Approximately two weeks prior, news surfaced that Gunji`s contract with K-1 had concluded. Despite this, he remains under contract with K-1 Gym Sohonbu for an additional six months.
When asked about his specific interest in ONE Championship (as mentioned in the original text source), Gunji commented: “Back in K-1, I always said I wanted to fight aggressive fighters like the ones in ONE, but I never got the chance. I like the fighting style you see in ONE, and I think I’d match up well with it.”
