UFC Legend Alexander Gustafsson Reportedly Poised for Boxing Switch

A notable former UFC athlete is reportedly poised to transition into the world of boxing, mirroring the career path of fellow ex-UFC fighter Darren Till. Till, whose UFC tenure ended with a period of criticism, has successfully revitalized his career in 2025 by venturing into boxing and securing impressive victories, even eyeing high-profile bouts against figures like Jake Paul.

Alexander Gustafsson in Talks for Misfits Boxing Move

Sources indicate that Alexander Gustafsson, a revered veteran of the UFC`s light heavyweight division, is currently in advanced discussions with Misfits Boxing. Gustafsson, affectionately known as “The Mauler,” boasts a remarkable 18 fights within the UFC octagon and is widely remembered for his legendary clashes against Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, often cited as one of the greatest fighters never to claim a championship title.

According to a report by the Swedish outlet Frontkick.online, Gustafsson`s negotiations with Misfits Boxing, the same promotion that has hosted Darren Till`s recent success, are well underway. The discussions reportedly include a potential bout against another former UFC competitor. Gustafsson initially announced his retirement from MMA in 2019, made a brief return the following year for two more fights, and was subsequently released from the UFC in December 2024. After a stint with GFL, which saw its initial events cancelled, a move to boxing appears to be his next step.

Jon Jones Praises Gustafsson as Toughest Opponent

Interestingly, UFC icon Jon Jones recently acknowledged Alexander Gustafsson as the toughest opponent he ever faced. During a Q&A session in June, Jones recounted their epic first encounter at UFC 165, stating:

“He was my best opponent, yeah. What was it, Switzerland or Sweden? Yeah, Sweden. Yeah, he was my best opponent, he really pushed me and he was the only person to take me down in the UFC. Man, he cut me open and made me dig really hard.”

Despite the intense challenge, Jones ultimately secured a convincing victory over Gustafsson in their rematch for the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 232.
