At the Koltai Jeno Sports Hall in Budapest, Hungary, the main event featured Ukrainian heavyweight Viktor Vykhryst (18-1, 11 KOs), the WBO European champion. In his inaugural title defense, Vykhryst secured a points victory over the seasoned 46-year-old Polish boxer Mariusz Wach (39-13, 20 KOs).
Vykhryst vs. Wach: Fight Recap and Outcome
Despite his imposing size, Mariusz Wach appeared slow and attempted to box from a distance, relying on his jab. However, Vykhryst confidently controlled the middle distance, dictated the pace of the fight, and continuously attacked his opponent with a high volume of unaccented punches, accumulating damage.
By the end of the third round, Wach was visibly struggling for breath, and the number of punches he absorbed steadily increased. He was fortunate that Vykhryst opted not for powerful, fight-ending blows but rather systematically wore down his opponent with a high volume of strikes. In the fourth round, the favorite managed to cut Wach’s face.
Subsequently, the pace of the fight somewhat leveled out; Vykhryst’s punch output decreased, and he began taking more pauses and clinching. The eighth round was overwhelmingly one-sided; Wach miraculously survived to the bell, barely landing any counter-punches. A similar scenario unfolded in the final round, where Vykhryst continued to press, aiming for a stoppage victory, but ultimately fell short.
The judges’ scorecards read: 100-90, 100-88, and 100-90, all in favor of Vykhryst. Viktor Vykhryst thus secured a unanimous decision victory after ten rounds (UD 10).
