Conor McGregor’s UFC Return Imminent, Ariel Helwani Teases Announcement Within 24 Hours

Renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani has suggested that the UFC is poised to reveal Conor McGregor’s highly anticipated return to the octagon very soon, potentially within the next 24 hours, possibly during or after UFC 328.

This speculation aligns with UFC CEO Dana White’s recent assertions. White previously stated his “extreme confidence” that McGregor would compete this summer, citing significant behind-the-scenes developments that bolster his belief.

The former two-division UFC champion, “The Notorious,” has been sidelined for close to five years. Despite this extended break, the 37-year-old fighter continues to maintain a strong public presence through regular training footage and updates, fueling anticipation for his comeback.

Recent reports and rumors suggest a potential rematch between McGregor and Max Holloway, possibly headlining the International Fight Week card. McGregor has also been notably active in the UFC’s testing program this year.

Helwani, citing his own sources, has reiterated his conviction that the UFC will officially announce McGregor’s next fight in the coming hours. He indicated a degree of confidence that his reporting on the matter will soon be validated by an official announcement.

Ilia Topuria on Facing Conor McGregor

Meanwhile, UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, who is scheduled to face Justin Gaethje on June 14th, has expressed openness to a future bout with Conor McGregor. When questioned about the possibility earlier this week, Topuria acknowledged McGregor’s status as a significant figure in the sport and stated he “never close[s] the door to those opportunities.”
