Dustin Poirier Believes Khamzat Chimaev’s Aura Was Damaged After UFC 328

Dustin Poirier suggests that Khamzat Chimaev’s intimidating presence has been significantly weakened following his defeat at UFC 328, where he lost his undefeated record and middleweight championship. Chimaev’s bout against Sean Strickland saw his wrestling tactics largely nullified, forcing him into a striking battle for most of the fight. Strickland ultimately secured a victory after five rounds.

Following the fight, Chimaev expressed his desire to move up to the light heavyweight division, indicating a potential shift in his career path.

Poirier: Chimaev’s Intimidation Factor Suffered a Hit

In a recent interview with UFC on Paramount+, Dustin Poirier shared his perspective on Chimaev’s post-fight actions, particularly his sportsmanship towards Sean Strickland, which Poirier interprets as further evidence of a diminished aura. Poirier stated that Chimaev’s upcoming opponents may find it harder to be intimidated by him.

“The next fight, whoever he gets matched up with, it’s going to be tough for him to intimidate because his aura took a hit this week,” Poirier commented. He specifically mentioned Chimaev putting the championship belt on Strickland’s waist as a sign that “Borz” and his perceived aura were deeply affected by the title loss.

Despite the loss, Chimaev has publicly expressed his interest in a rematch with Sean Strickland, indicating he is ready whenever “Tarzan” is prepared.
