Mike Perry is set to return to mixed martial arts with Netflix’s entry into the sport, and a former BKFC title challenger, Doug Coltrane, believes the upcoming Nate Diaz fight will be featured on a more compelling event than UFC Freedom 250.
Coltrane shared his perspective during a recent appearance on Bare Knuckle Bowker, just before his first-round victory over ex-UFC fighter Maki Pitolo at BKFC Honolulu on April 11th.
Coltrane, who had previously called out Mike Perry with the hope of a BKFC middleweight title fight if he defeated David Mundell, commented on the highly anticipated Mike Perry vs. Nate Diaz matchup. He stated that while he respects both fighters and believes they will earn good money, he has a personal admiration for Nate Diaz.
“I mean, personally, man, I mean, I don’t really care for the fight,” Coltrane said. “I mean, I think it’s a good fight for both of them guys. I think they’re both going to make good money. But personally, I think Nate is; I mean, everybody loves Nate, man. I love Nate. He’s always going to be one of my favorites, for sure. You know what I mean? But at some point in time, you don’t want to see your favorites keep going out there and taking damage. But big, big ups to those guys.”
When asked to compare the Netflix MMA card featuring Perry and Diaz to the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 event, Coltrane expressed his preference for the Netflix offering. He admitted that while there are some interesting bouts on the UFC card, he finds himself more excited about the Netflix event.
“I’ll definitely tune in to the fight,” Coltrane continued. “I think I’m more excited about that card than I am the [UFC] White House card if I’m being honest. I mean, there’s a couple fights on the White House card that obviously we want to see, but if I’m being honest, you know what I mean? I’m liking the Netflix card a little better at the moment.”
