Song Yadong achieved a triumphant homecoming, captivating the Chinese audience with a significant victory in the UFC Macau main event. He submitted former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo in the second round, concluding the event on a high note.
Throughout the first round, the “Kung Fu Kid” maintained control through consistent pressure and strategic striking. Rather than rushing for a knockout, the Chinese fighter patiently cornered his opponent, targeted Figueiredo’s legs and body, and forced him onto the defensive. While the Brazilian managed some successful counter-strikes and briefly held top position after a slip, the momentum was clearly shifting.
The second round saw this advantage grow even stronger. Song Yadong landed his right hand repeatedly and continued to wear down Figueiredo’s lead leg, progressively slowing the veteran fighter. As the pressure intensified, “Deus da Guerra” began attempting takedowns to alter the fight’s trajectory.
Late in the round, after absorbing another leg kick, Figueiredo attempted another takedown. However, “Kung Fu Kid” swiftly secured a guillotine choke, forcing the veteran to tap out at 4:42 of the second round.
Following his loss to Sean O’Malley at UFC 324 in January, Song Yadong has made an impressive comeback. The 28-year-old now boasts a 12-4-1 record in the Octagon and a professional record of 23-9-1, with Figueiredo joining a list of notable wins that includes Henry Cejudo, Marlon Vera, and Marlon Moraes.
Meanwhile, former two-time UFC flyweight titleholder Deiveson Figueiredo is experiencing a challenging period in his career. “Deus da Guerra” has now lost four of his last five fights, bringing his Octagon record to 14-7-1 and his professional record to 25-7-1.
