Tom Aspinall Injury Update and Comeback Plans

UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall is nearing a return to full training, reporting that his eye injury is healing well and he expects clearance for contact soon.

Aspinall sustained a double eye poke during his title defense against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321. The fight was subsequently ruled a no-contest, allowing Aspinall to retain his championship belt.

Following the incident, Aspinall underwent surgery on both eyes. While he has been able to train in the gym, he has not yet been medically cleared for sparring.

During Aspinall’s recovery period, an interim heavyweight championship bout has been scheduled between Ciryl Gane and Alex Pereira for June 14. The winner of this fight is anticipated to face Aspinall later in the year in a unification bout.

Tom Aspinall’s Latest Update

In a recent update shared with fans after a visit to the eye hospital, Aspinall expressed optimism about his recovery. He stated that his condition is progressing positively, and doctors may soon permit him to resume sparring.

“Things are progressing incredibly well, which I’m very pleased about. They’re indicating that if things continue to improve as they are, I’ll be cleared for contact training shortly. I’m back in the gym and training, though not yet cleared for sparring.”

Aspinall is uncertain about the exact date of his octagon return but is confident that he will fight the winner of the interim title bout, a sentiment echoed by the UFC.

“There’s no specific month for my return yet. I’m awaiting clearance, which should be coming soon. Any definite timeline will depend on the UFC.”
