Esteban Rodriguez Eyes Interim Gold and “$25 Million Tournament” at BKFC 88

Esteban “Mohawk” Rodriguez is set to challenge Chris Camozzi for the interim cruiserweight championship at BKFC 88 on April 17th. This highly anticipated bout against a former BKFC champion has fueled Rodriguez’s excitement, as he believes it’s a crucial step towards his ultimate goals.

Rodriguez expressed his long-held desire to face Camozzi, stating, “We have been training our entire career for this one. We’ve had [Chris Camozzi] on the list for a long time now and I am ready to show the world that I’m that new future 205 champion, baby.”

With Alessio Sakara holding the lineal cruiserweight title, Rodriguez anticipates that the winner of his fight with Camozzi will likely face Sakara on a future BKFC Italy card. However, his immediate focus is on securing the interim strap and using it as a springboard for bigger opportunities.

“I’m ready for whatever this is to come,” Rodriguez said. “This has been a huge stepping stone to be able to really accomplish the big thing. Like I really want to get into that $25 million tournament, baddest man tournament coming up here this year.” He is eager to prove himself in that elite competition, which he believes will feature “the best of the best” across various weight classes.

Rodriguez is confident in his evolving skill set, highlighting recent improvements in his explosiveness and overall connection with his body. He feels he has reached “new levels” in his training and is prepared to showcase a transformed fighter at BKFC 88. “I’m going to go out there and show them the next most entertaining fighter in the world, man,” he declared.

The fighter also recounted a recent encounter with Camozzi at a BKFC Ice Wars event, where a physical altercation occurred. Rodriguez saw this as an opportunity to test Camozzi’s clinch game firsthand. “He is in for a bad day at the office, man,” Rodriguez warned.

Rodriguez believes his comfort and mastery in the clinch will be a significant advantage. “My long arms, man, I can just reach out under there and grab in and they can’t hide from it, man. They can’t hide from it,” he explained. He has found a unique comfort zone in intense situations, which he attributes to his recent breakthroughs in training.

He further elaborated on his physical advancements, stating, “My sprints have gone up a crazy, crazy amount. I’ve been gotten so much more faster now and everything that I’m just doing now has just been really just more springy and explosive.” This combination of improved physicality and newfound confidence leads Rodriguez to believe his performance at BKFC 88 will be “one for the books.”
