Jorge Masvidal has responded to a recent disagreement with Chael Sonnen by issuing a direct challenge for a bare-knuckle MMA match under Masvidal’s own promotion, Gamebred FC. The confrontation stemmed from Sonnen’s comments questioning Masvidal’s claims about potential UFC return talks, which clearly agitated the fighter.
Masvidal’s response was notable for its aggressive nature, mixing personal insults with a formal fight offer. He linked the challenge to Gamebred FC’s upcoming plans, which include heavyweight and lightweight tournaments with significant prize money, and events scheduled in the Dominican Republic and Miami. This suggests the callout is part of a strategic move to generate buzz for his promotion.
Masvidal’s Insults and Proposition
During a podcast appearance, Masvidal stated:
“This person has some nerve. They are transitioning into a woman. Now that they are a lesbian, they think I can’t slap them. I can’t take this guy seriously – the greatest thing he did was tap out to Anderson Silva, and he was on seven different PEDs.”
He then extended a more direct challenge:
“Chael, I’ve got a proposition for you. I’m going to beat you soundly. I’ll pay you to come over to my promotion, bare-knuckle MMA. I’ll go up to heavyweight and beat the [expletive] lesbian out of you.”
Sonnen has a history of involvement in potential fight scenarios, including being considered as backup for a past boxing match involving Masvidal. Sonnen’s reputation as a skilled provocateur means any challenge involving him tends to gain rapid attention.
Masvidal’s jab about Anderson Silva and PEDs refers to a past incident where Sonnen tested positive for elevated testosterone levels after his loss to Silva in 2010, a notable controversy in MMA history.
Currently, this remains a public challenge rather than an officially booked fight. Masvidal appears to have effectively leveraged a recent feud, his business ventures, and past controversies surrounding Sonnen to create significant media attention for Gamebred FC.
