UFC Baku Fight Canceled Due to Fighter’s Severe Heart Condition

The UFC Baku event has suffered another blow with the cancellation of a fight just a month before the scheduled date.

The mixed martial arts promotion was planning its second visit to Azerbaijan’s capital for a Fight Night event on June 27th at the National Gymnastics Arena.

According to a report from Swedish publication Frontkick, Andreas Gustafsson has been compelled to withdraw from his planned welterweight bout against Daniil Donchenko at UFC Baku next month due to significant health concerns.

The issue is reportedly related to his heart, with the report suggesting that “Bane” has been experiencing atrial fibrillation and recurring heart episodes that worsened during his training camp. Despite maintaining good physical condition, his symptoms reportedly intensified, forcing him out of the fight.

As a result, the 35-year-old Swedish fighter must step away from competition for the foreseeable future to focus on his health.

Gustafsson earned his UFC contract in August 2024 with a knockout victory on Dana White’s Contender Series. He made his Octagon debut in June 2025 at UFC 316, securing a unanimous decision win over Khaos Williams.

However, “Bane” was subsequently defeated by first-round knockout by Rinat Fakhretdinov at UFC Paris. He currently holds a professional record of 12 wins and 3 losses.

It remains uncertain whether Donchenko will face a late replacement opponent or be removed from the UFC Baku card entirely. The 24-year-old Ukrainian fighter secured his spot in the UFC with a first-round knockout victory over Matt Dixon on The Ultimate Fighter 33 in March 2025.

Donchenko’s last fight was at UFC Vegas 113 in February, where he achieved a unanimous decision win against veteran Alex Morono. He currently has a 2-0 record in the UFC and an overall professional record of 13 wins and 2 losses.

This marks the second bout cancellation for the June 27th card. Last week, former middleweight title challenger Marvin Vettori announced his withdrawal from UFC Baku due to a broken rib, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled matchup with Ismail Naurdiev.
