Josh Hokit Seeks Title Fight Against Ciryl Gane After Aspinall Vacates UFC Gold
With Tom Aspinall vacating the UFC Heavyweight Championship, Josh Hokit is positioning himself for an undisputed title bout against Ciryl Gane.
UFC CEO Dana White indicated plans to discuss Aspinall's title status after the Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn event. This followed reports of Aspinall needing further eye examinations before competing again.
Aspinall confirmed his decision to relinquish the heavyweight title shortly after White's remarks. Hokit, a notable contender, has now expressed his interest in facing Gane, the current interim champion.
Hokit stated on X, “The fans deserve Me vs Gane. I’ll give Ciryl what he has coming. If Alex can win 1 fight in my weight class, I’ll give it to him too, early ‘27. I’ll be the most active champ in the company.”
Hokit's last fight was a second-round TKO victory over Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250 in June. On the same night, Gane defeated Alex Pereira in the second round to claim interim gold.
The UFC's plans for the heavyweight division remain unconfirmed with Aspinall stepping aside. While Pereira has requested a rematch with Gane, some observers question the competitiveness of their initial encounter.
Hokit represents a fresh face in the heavyweight title picture. He holds the No. 6 spot in the Meta UFC rankings and No. 4 in media rankings. Updates on the UFC's heavyweight division plans will be provided as they become available.
