Derrick Lewis Unfazed by Outdoor Fight Conditions at UFC Freedom 250

Derrick Lewis is prepared to compete in an outdoor setting again and is unconcerned about the potential presence of insects at UFC Freedom 250. ‘The Black Beast’ is scheduled to face heavyweight contender Josh Hokit on June 14th at the White House. Many are highlighting the unique circumstances of this event, including its unusual location and the challenges of fighting outside a controlled arena environment. Potential issues like extreme heat and insects entering the cage have been discussed, but Lewis remains unbothered by these factors.

Speaking at a UFC media day prior to the event, Lewis stated, “The last time I fought outside, they locked me up for three and a half years, so I have experience in that. I live in Texas. We got mosquitos and bugs all day long. Biting a** all day. So, I’m used to that.”

Furthermore, Lewis appears unfazed by Josh Hokit’s provocative trash talk. In a May interview with MMA Fighting, Lewis commented on Hokit’s behavior, saying, “I really don’t care. I believe that guys do stuff like that just because it ain’t nothing else we can go after. Because he don’t know me and I don’t know him. So, I believe that he just says and does things like that just to get under someone’s skin that he don’t know. We’re about to go fist to a** in a few weeks, so it’s like, you’ve got to try to find some type of motivation.” He added, “I don’t care about all the s**t-talking. I’ve been doing this long enough to know that guys can say whatever. Say whatever, it don’t matter. We get asked these questions all the time, so sometimes guys don’t know what to say, so they just say whatever. That’s how I do it.”

Derrick Lewis Unfazed by Bugs at UFC Freedom 250: “The Last Time I Fought Outside, They Locked Me Up for Three and a Half Years”

Derrick Lewis is ready to battle in an outdoor environment once again and is not deterred by the possible insect presence at UFC Freedom 250. ‘The Black Beast’ will clash with surging heavyweight Josh Hokit on the White House grounds on June 14th, with many focusing on the event’s unique variables. These considerations extend beyond the location itself, encompassing the underlying challenges of an event not held in a controlled, curated environment like an arena. Excessive heat and the potential for insects to encroach on the cage have been topics of discussion, but the beloved knockout artist remains entirely undeterred by these elements.

At the UFC media day preceding the White House event, Lewis stated, “The last time I fought outside, they locked me up for three and a half years, so I have experience in that. I live in Texas. We got mosquitos and bugs all day long. Biting a** all day. So, I’m used to that.”

Derrick Lewis is not bothered by literally sweating and is figuratively unconcerned by any of Josh Hokit’s unconventional trash talk, a hallmark of the latter’s persona. This was expressed during a recent interview with MMA Fighting in May, where Lewis stated, “I really don’t care. I believe that guys do stuff like that just because it ain’t nothing else we can go after. Because he don’t know me and I don’t know him. So, I believe that he just says and does things like that just to get under someone’s skin that he don’t know. We’re about to go fist to a** in a few weeks, so it’s like, you’ve got to try to find some type of motivation.” He further added, “I don’t care about all the s**t-talking. I’ve been doing this long enough to know that guys can say whatever. Say whatever, it don’t matter. We get asked these questions all the time, so sometimes guys don’t know what to say, so they just say whatever. That’s how I do it.”
