Israel Adesanya Backs Alex Pereira’s Historic Triple-Champion Ambition

Israel Adesanya has publicly stated his support for Alex Pereira’s ambition to conquer a third UFC division. Pereira is set to make his heavyweight debut on June 14th at UFC Freedom 250, facing Ciryl Gane for an interim heavyweight championship. Should he succeed, Pereira will etch his name in UFC history as the first fighter to secure belts across three distinct weight classes.

Despite a past fierce rivalry in both UFC and kickboxing, Adesanya and Pereira have developed a deep mutual respect and maintain a friendly relationship, often supporting each other’s endeavors.

“I want to see Alex do it [win the third UFC belt],” Adesanya commented, emphasizing the potential impact on the sport. “I honestly think it’s going to be good for the sport. It’s going to be great for him to achieve something that’s never even been attempted. It’s like seeing the first person climb Everest.” He further elaborated on the unique experience of rooting for a former competitor, stating, “It’s not about me, it’s bigger than me. This is history, To see someone achieve this, and you played a part in helping them get there. It’s f*cking cool, man… The official pick. I’m going chama by chama.”

Pereira, in turn, recently offered his respect to Adesanya amidst his current four-fight losing streak, acknowledging the challenges inherent in a combat sports career. “The guy had a brilliant career. That can happen to anybody,” Pereira stated. “The guy had great moments, a great career, and great success, and he has my respect.”
