Ilia Topuria Anticipates a New Justin Gaethje at UFC White House

Ilia Topuria anticipates a significantly altered Justin Gaethje when they face off at UFC Freedom 250. The undisputed lightweight champion will compete against the current two-time 155-pound titleholder Gaethje on June 14, with the event taking place on the South Lawn of the White House.

While Topuria predicts a first-round knockout, Gaethje is expected to aim for a longer fight, pushing the champion into the later rounds. Gaethje, 37, will likely hope for Topuria to tire, creating an opportunity to unleash a level of chaos the champion has not yet encountered.

Gaethje initially stated his intention to press forward against Topuria, acknowledging that many of Topuria’s past opponents were knocked out while attempting to engage him. Although this strategy appears risky, Gaethje may believe a perfectly timed combination can disrupt and pressure Topuria. However, Gaethje is aware of the potential repercussions of such an approach.

During fight week, when asked about his strategy for the lightweight title unification bout on June 14, Gaethje declined to reveal his plans before the fight. Spectators will have to wait until the weekend to witness what he brings to the octagon to challenge and potentially unseat Topuria.

Meanwhile, Topuria feels he has a clear understanding of Gaethje’s intentions.

Ilia Topuria’s Prediction for the Justin Gaethje Bout

During a media day session, Ilia Topuria expressed his expectation of facing a more deliberate and less impulsive version of Justin Gaethje. The 29-year-old believes Gaethje is a well-rounded fighter and will aim to showcase his full skillset. Despite this, Topuria remains confident in his ability to secure a first-round knockout.

“I believe we will see a different Justin than we are accustomed to. He will present a completely new style. He will likely attempt takedowns and utilize a variety of hard kicks, including inside, outside, and high kicks. He will probably aim to take the fight into the later rounds, believing that is where he excels.”
