Khamzat Chimaev Declines Potential Fights with Khalil Rountree Jr. and Nassourdine Imavov

Middleweight kingpin Khamzat Chimaev has made it clear that he will not step into the octagon against Khalil Rountree Jr., whom he considers a brother. Chimaev, slated to defend his title against Sean Strickland at UFC 328, believes in maintaining genuine bonds and avoids fighting those he holds in high regard.

Chimaev articulated his stance during fight week, stating, “I’m never gonna fight Khalil. If I’m brother with you I’m real brother don’t do that bullsh*t like Sean does he calls you brother one day and second day he fights you I can’t do that sh*t. I wanna be real.” This highlights his commitment to authentic relationships over potential career moves.

The undefeated fighter also touched upon why a previously rumored bout with Nassourdine Imavov did not materialize. Chimaev explained that mutual respect and shared background played a significant role. “Of course we both don’t want to fight each other because same religion, same country almost we know each other I believe he’s a next champ too,” he commented, indicating a reluctance to compete against someone he considers a peer and potentially a future champion.

Both Rountree Jr. and Imavov represent fighters with whom Chimaev has established personal connections or shared affiliations, leading him to prioritize these relationships over competitive matchups.
