Sean Strickland Rejects DEI Corporate Sponsors Ahead of UFC 328 Clash

Ahead of his middleweight title challenge at UFC 328, Sean Strickland has publicly rejected offers from major corporate sponsors, including Nike. Strickland is set to face middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev on May 9th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The rivalry between the two fighters has intensified throughout the week, stemming from a leaked sparring session that revealed existing tension.

Strickland’s Strong Stance on Sponsorships

During a pre-fight media day, when asked about securing significant sponsorships, Strickland vehemently dismissed the idea. In a candid scrum, he voiced his strong disapproval of large corporations:

“I don’t give a f***. If Nike wants to come give me a logo, as you go and use little Chinese kids to make shoes. F*** these major companies. If you don’t want to sponsor me, go f*** yourself. You’re the problem dude, your DEI initiatives. I don’t need to be a rich man. I’m good. I can retire now. An extra million dollars. I don’t give a f*** dude. Keep your money, you corporate scumbags.”

While Strickland currently has Monster Energy as a sponsor, he tends to avoid promoting them during contentious press conferences. Notably, Nike previously sponsored UFC fighters such as Jon Jones and Anderson Silva before Venum took over fight gear distribution. Strickland’s current remarks align with his past criticisms of corporate partnerships, including the UFC’s deal with Bud Light.

Chimaev is defending his belt, which he secured after a victory in August 2025, his most recent bout prior to this defense. Strickland previously lost his title to Dricus du Plessis in 2024 but has since made a strong comeback with notable wins. Increased security measures are in place for fight week due to the volatile exchanges between the fighters, including Strickland’s earlier comment about carrying a firearm if confronted. Chimaev, however, appeared unfazed, stating during a media workout that he would be waiting in the lobby without fear.

UFC 328 is headlined by this highly anticipated grudge match. Press conferences were held on Thursday and Friday, with an unusual White House tie-in event. Chimaev maintains a composed demeanor as the perceived aggressor, while Strickland continues to be outspoken. The event in Newark is expected to draw a large crowd and could significantly impact the middleweight division’s landscape.
