Paddy Pimblett has reflected on his defeat to Justin Gaethje at UFC 324. The highly anticipated bout for the interim lightweight title saw Pimblett, who was the favorite according to oddsmakers, unable to overcome Gaethje’s relentless pressure. “The Highlight” dominated the fight for five rounds, dropping Pimblett multiple times.
Despite demonstrating considerable courage in the face of adversity, Pimblett absorbed significant damage and ultimately lost via unanimous decision.
Paddy Pimblett Plans to Rely More on Game Plans for Future Fights
In a recent YouTube video discussing his UFC 324 experience, Pimblett acknowledged that his ego played a role in his downfall. He admitted to being determined to engage in a striking battle with Gaethje and produce an exciting slugfest, which ultimately led him astray from a tactical approach.
Moving forward, Pimblett intends to abandon reckless striking and prioritize a well-defined game plan in his upcoming bouts to secure victories.
“With the last fight, I think a little bit of my ego got in the way. I wanted to knock him out. I wanted to strike with him and show everyone I could strike. I wanted a war. Back to fight IQ, back to the game plan, and not just swinging recklessly.”
Pimblett is reportedly eyeing a return to the octagon in July, with strong rumors suggesting a matchup against the in-form Benoit Saint Denis, who is currently on a four-fight winning streak.
