Carlos Prates Vows Brutal KO Against Islam Makhachev: "I Will Bring That Belt to Brazil"

Carlos Prates has issued a strong warning to Islam Makhachev, stating his unwavering intention to deliver a spectacular performance should he earn the next UFC welterweight title shot.

Makhachev recently made history by defending his 170-pound title for the first time, extending his remarkable winning streak to 17 consecutive victories, surpassing Anderson Silva's UFC record. He secured a unanimous decision win against Ian Machado Garry in the main event of UFC 330.

Prates, who was present at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia to witness Makhachev's triumph, believes he is the rightful No. 1 contender. If this proves to be the case, "The Nightmare" anticipates a knockout victory. A clip shared by Pedro Baptista captured Prates issuing a direct challenge to the welterweight king.

"I will knock you out, bro," Prates declared. "I will bring that belt to Brazil. The first welterweight champ from Brazil."

Prates is currently on a three-fight winning streak, with all his victories coming by way of finish against notable opponents. In his latest bout, the powerful Brazilian defeated former UFC welterweight titleholder Jack Della Maddalena. Before that, he secured knockout wins against ex-UFC champion Leon Edwards and Geoff Neal.

Over his last 15 fights, Prates boasts an impressive record of 14 wins and only one loss. That single defeat was against Ian Machado Garry in a fight where "The Nightmare" came very close to achieving a comeback victory.

Makhachev has expressed his desire to compete again before Ramadan. If the welterweight champion's next fight is scheduled for January 2027, Prates might need to have another bout before challenging for UFC gold. Alternatively, he could wait if the UFC management deems him the undisputed top contender.

Another fighter frequently mentioned in the championship conversation is Michael Morales. The rapidly advancing Ecuadorian fighter also attended UFC 330 and has been vocal about his desire for a title fight. There have been suggestions that Morales and Prates should face each other with a shot at UFC gold on the line. However, it remains to be seen if such a matchup will materialize.
