Ian Machado Garry Confronts Michael Morales Backstage After UFC 330

Ian Machado Garry had a backstage encounter with Michael Morales shortly after UFC 330 concluded.

While the interaction between "The Future" and the emerging welterweight contender wasn't overtly hostile, Garry took issue with a recent statement made by Morales. Prior to Garry's welterweight title bout against Islam Makhachev, Garry had expressed that he wasn't particularly impressed with the caliber of opponents Morales had faced and suggested Morales needed another fight against a top contender.

Following Garry's unanimous decision loss to Makhachev, he ran into Morales backstage. Despite a seemingly cordial greeting, Garry was displeased with what he described as a fabricated story from Morales about their first in-person meeting.

"All the s*** you talk, it's okay," Garry stated. "Just make sure you back it up. I don't know what story you made up about meeting me, I've never encountered someone like that, you know that, right? Listen, you're a good fighter. Show up, keep winning, and you can do anything. Does that make sense? You've got huge fights in this division. You've got me, you've got [Carlos] Prates, you've got Islam. Show up and fight. Does that make sense? You're an animal. You're strong."

Morales is being considered as a potential next contender for Makhachev's UFC Welterweight Championship. There have been discussions about a potential fight between Carlos Prates and Morales with a title shot on the line. The current welterweight champion intends to have his next fight no later than January 2027, prior to Ramadan.

If Makhachev's return takes until early next year, it's highly probable that Morales and Prates will need to compete again before then, unless injuries prevent it. Notably, Morales successfully made weight and was available as a backup fighter for the UFC 330 main event.

Ian Machado Garry Confronts Michael Morales Backstage Post-UFC 330

Ian Machado Garry and Michael Morales had a notable exchange backstage following the conclusion of UFC 330. The interaction, though not escalating to outright hostility, saw Garry express his displeasure with a claim made by Morales.

Garry had previously voiced his opinion that Morales hadn't faced a high enough level of competition and that another significant fight was needed for the Ecuadorian prospect. After Garry's loss to Islam Makhachev via unanimous decision, he encountered Morales backstage.

During their conversation, Garry addressed Morales directly: "All the s*** you talk, it's okay. Just make sure you back it up.

Michael Morales is being positioned as a potential contender for Islam Makhachev's welterweight title. There's speculation about a potential showdown between Morales and Carlos Prates for a title shot. Makhachev is aiming to fight again by January 2027, before Ramadan.

This timeline suggests that both Morales and Prates will likely need to compete again before the title fight, barring any unforeseen circumstances like injuries. Morales was also prepared as an emergency fighter, having made weight for UFC 330.
