Jon Jones Responds to Daniel Cormier's GOAT Claims, Citing 'Deep Jealousy'
UFC icons Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier continue their long-standing feud, with their rivalry reigniting after a recent exchange about who deserves the title of the greatest fighter in UFC history. The latest sparks flew when Cormier, a former teammate of Khabib Nurmagomedov, declared Nurmagomedov the GOAT over Jones.
In a recent interview, Cormier justified his pick by highlighting Nurmagomedov's undefeated record and flawless execution in the Octagon, contrasting it with Jones's one loss, which Cormier attributed to a mistake. "Jon Jones, for as good as he is, has one loss. Why? Because he made a mistake," Cormier stated. "Khabib dominated and never made a mistake. Never got himself disqualified…never made mistakes."
Jones, in response via an Instagram comment, dismissed Cormier's reasoning, attributing his own past errors to inexperience rather than fundamental flaws. He highlighted his consistent presence in main events and title fights from the early stages of his career. Jones then directly addressed Cormier, suggesting that his comments stemmed from profound envy.
"My brother, Daniel Cormier, your jealousy runs so deep through your blood," Jones commented. "I honestly pray that the good Lord heals you from your envy and that, one day, you won’t feel the need to do interviews like this. Until then, it’s flattering to see the passion you have when it comes to me."
Nurmagomedov and Cormier were both inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2022. Jon Jones is widely expected to follow them into the Hall of Fame upon his anticipated retirement from mixed martial arts in 2025.
