Max Holloway Responds to Islam Makhachev's Double-Champ Jab: "You're Messing with the Wrong One"

The verbal sparring between UFC fighters Max Holloway and Islam Makhachev has intensified. Following Makhachev's successful welterweight title defense at UFC 330, Holloway took issue with Makhachev still displaying two championship belts, especially after relinquishing his lightweight title in 2025. Makhachev retaliated on social media, suggesting Holloway wouldn't understand the experience of holding multiple titles.

Holloway, speaking on a Kick live stream, voiced his surprise at Makhachev's continued display of two belts. He pointed out that Makhachev had vacated his lightweight title before winning his second championship, and that another fighter had already claimed that title. Holloway also humorously suggested that Makhachev's social media might be managed by someone else.

To emphasize his point, Holloway presented his own collection of UFC championships, including the current Featherweight Championship, legacy titles, and the BMF Championship. He also criticized Makhachev's team for their reaction to his comments about the two belts.

"Never come at me, bro," Holloway stated, addressing Makhachev directly. "Especially when you're hiding behind someone else's Instagram. You guys can be mad at me for what I said. Don't you ever come for my neck and tell me I don't know how heavy it is. Brother, I have a lot of those bad boys at my house."

The former featherweight king concluded with a stern warning to Makhachev's camp: "You're messing with the wrong one."

The future of Holloway's next fight remains unclear. His highly anticipated bout against Conor McGregor at UFC 329 was cut short due to McGregor's injury. While McGregor is expected to be sidelined until at least summer 2027, Holloway is unlikely to wait that long before returning to the octagon.
