Mark Hunt Arrested on Domestic Violence-Related Charge

Former UFC heavyweight fighter Mark Hunt was apprehended in northern New South Wales this week. He faces a charge of stalking or intimidation with the intent to cause physical harm, as reported by sources referencing police and court documents. This development is significant in the MMA community, given Hunt’s prominent status as a well-known heavyweight from Oceania. The arrest comes a year after the conclusion of his protracted legal dispute involving Brock Lesnar and the UFC.

Details of the Arrest and Charges

Initial reports indicated that Mark Hunt was denied bail prior to a court appearance on Wednesday. However, subsequent information from the Times of India, citing court proceedings, stated that bail was eventually granted under stringent conditions. These conditions reportedly require Hunt to remain at his residence in Cobbitty, south-west Sydney, and prohibit any contact with the accuser. His next court date is scheduled for April 30th at Ballina Local Court.

Police allege that during an incident at a residential property, Hunt made threats towards a woman known to him while she was assisting him with a task. Prosecutors also brought up an alleged message that reportedly contained a death threat against the woman. However, Hunt’s legal representatives have denied that he sent such a message, and no separate charges have been filed concerning it. The defense further argued that Hunt’s past as a professional fighter should not be used as evidence of violent behavior in his personal life.

Mark Hunt’s MMA Career

Mark Hunt remains a notable figure in MMA. He competed in the UFC for eight years, from 2010 to 2018, participating in 18 fights. He headlined five UFC events and challenged for the interim heavyweight title against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 in November 2014. Hunt also had a notable career in PRIDE FC and K-1.

Previous Legal Battles

Beyond his fighting career, Hunt was involved in lengthy litigation concerning his UFC 200 loss to Brock Lesnar. In 2017, Hunt filed a lawsuit against the UFC, Dana White, and Lesnar, alleging fraud and racketeering following Lesnar’s failure to pass drug tests associated with their 2016 bout. The outcome of that fight was later overturned to a no contest due to Lesnar’s positive test results.
